Features
- Cardinal features of pulmonary TB: cough, night sweats, fever and weight loss.
- Pleural effusion is seen more frequently
- Lung infection mimics community acquired pneumonia
- Chest radiograph may be normal in spite of TB
- Sputum smear is often negative
- Tuberculin test is often non-reactive
- Multi-drug resistant tuberculosis is frequent
- Infection by mycobacterium species other than M. tuberculosis is common
