Pre Labour Rupture of Membranes (PROM) - Antibiotic prophylaxis

This is rupture of amniotic membranes at term before onset of labour

If >24 hours or pyrexia in labour. Early delivery should be effected:

	Medicine	Adult Dose	Frequency	Duration
	benzylpenicillin iv	2MU	6 hourly	until delivery
and	chloramphenicol iv	500mg	6 hourly
and	metronidazole iv	500mg	8 hourly	until delivery

Switch to oral antibiotics for 7 days after delivery:

	Medicine	Adult Dose	Frequency	Duration
	amoxicillin po	500mg	3 times a day	7 days
and	metronidazole po	400mg	3 times a day	7 days
