Description

This is an inflammatory condition of the testis caused by bacteria and mumps virus. About 20 % of post- pubertal male patients have testicular inflammation, usually unilateral. Testicular atrophy may ensue.

Signs and Symptoms

• Painful testicular swelling
• Fever
• Signs of STI (urethral discharge, dysuria, tender inguinal lymphadenopathy)
• If due to Mumps, there might be associated parotid swelling

Treatment

• Analgesics
• Antibiotics for STIs
